Topic: Tottenham furious with Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero amid Brazi

ottenham are furious after two of the club’s players, Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero, were at the centre of the farcical suspension of Argentina’s World Cup qualifier in Brazil on Sunday.

It is thought the pair – and Colombia’s Davinson Sanchez – are set to be fined by Spurs after reporting for international duty against the club’s express wishes.

The match between Argentina and Brazil in Sao Paulo was called off after around five minutes when Brazilian health authorities invaded the pitch and accused the Spurs pair and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez of breaching Covid-19 quarantine rules.

The trio and Villa’s Emiliano Buendia, who was watching from the stands, allegedly breached a rule which says travellers who have been in the UK in the previous 14 days must quarantine for 14 days on entering Brazil.

The Argentina team walked off the pitch at the Corinthians Arena and South American football’s governing body CONMEBOL confirmed the game had been suspended around an hour after the stoppage.

It is thought the Argentina squad was able to leave Brazil on a flight from Sao Paulo airport and have returned home to prepare for their qualifier against Bolivia in Buenos Aires on Friday.
